Poetry Assignment, Child's Poem, Letters to Dad

Daddy,
Why haven't you come home?
Mommy's sad and won't stop crying.
I keep asking her when you will be back,
she tells me soon but where are you?
You've been gone for a year,
and still you we get no letters.
Lucy prays for you every night,
she says that God will bring you back to us.
I hope Lucy's right.
It's my birthday today Daddy,
Mommy made me a cake.
I wished for you Daddy.
Someone's at the door,
he's dressed like you.
Maybe he knows where you are.

  1. An odd child's poem, with a fairly dark ending.

    Fits into the context, however.
